A beautiful storyline with a blend of humour. The series stars Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-Kyo and was released in 2016. It revolves around a doctor and a special forces officer falling in love in a foreign land. Although the leading couple has impeccable chemistry, the ensemble cast is something that adds colour and pizzazz to this series. Kim Ji-won and Jin Goo will surely affect you with a serious second lead syndrome.
2. Crash Landing on You
It’s one of the highest-rated drama in Korean TV history starring Son Ye-jin and Hyun Bin. It’s a story between a soldier from North Korea and an heiress from South Korea falling in love, thanks to a paragliding mishap. This drama adds light to the cultures of North and South Korea and their relations with each other. The reel life couple has also recently started dating in real life, much to their fan’s delight.
3. Kingdom
If you are someone who prefers horror and thriller pieces over romance then this is your perfect match. It’s a story about a mysterious plague possessing ancient Joseon. Spoiler alert: you will encounter a lot of zombies here! The Prince must tackle deceptions, conspiracies and find a solution to this plague to save his people. Ju Ji-Hoon is exceptional as Crown Prince Lee Chang while Bae Doona plays her role of Seo-Bi, a physician’s assistant to perfection. A series with great action, acting skills, and storyline and, let’s not forget, already released two seasons: a rare instance in K-drama culture. The third season is due this year.
4. Mr. Sunshine
Keep your tissues handy because this series will make you cry, laugh and fall in love with Korea at the same time. Starring all popular names like Lee Byung-hun, Kim Tae-Ri, Yoo Yeon-Seok, Kim Min-jung, and Byun Yo-han, this series is a treat for your eyes with its enchanting cinematography. It’s set in the early 1900s and is inspired by the events of Korean Independence and revolution.
