Here is a yummylicious recipe for Sweet Fried Modak — a must-try during Ganesh Chaturthi!
Sweet Fried Modak Ingredients
For the Outer Cover
- 2 bowls whole wheat flour
- ¼ tbsp salt
- 2 tbsp hot oil
- Water, as required to knead the dough
- Oil, for deep frying
For the Stuffing
- 1½ bowls grated jaggery
- 1½ bowls fresh grated or desiccated coconut
- 1 tbsp cardamom powder
- 1 tbsp crushed cashew nuts
- 1 tbsp crushed almonds
- ¾ cup water
Procedure
For the Outer Cover:
Mix all the ingredients together and knead into a soft dough. The dough should not be too loose. Cover it and keep it aside.
For the Stuffing:
Heat a pan over medium flame. Add the grated coconut and jaggery, and mix well. The jaggery will start melting after a while. Add the cardamom powder and crushed nuts. Stir continuously until the mixture becomes dry. Transfer the mixture to a flat plate and allow it to cool.
Make small, equal-sized balls from the kneaded dough. Roll each ball lightly into a small bowl-like shape. Place about 1 tbsp of the stuffing in the centre of each rolled-out puri. Gather the pleats together in the centre and seal the edges. Deep-fry the Modak in hot oil until golden brown.
