It was 22 year old Paulina Vega who took home the Miss Universe crown on Sunday in Miami. A business administration student, Vega competed with over 80 contestants from around the world to win the title. Upon hearing that people back home in Columbia had taken to the streets to celebrate her win, she responded by saying that she would wear the crown with “pride and excitement.”
In a statement at the post competition press conference, the Latin beauty acknowledged the support of local Latinos too. “It felt like home. I felt like I was in Colombia with my people. I felt that support in every moment of the pageant,” she said.
Donald Trump, the owner of the pageant, interestingly revealed that many had predicted that Vega would walk home with the title from the moment she landed in Miami.
The first runner up was Miss USA and India’s Noyonita Lodh made it to the top 15.
