Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan are celebrating their 46 wedding anniversary today. The iconic couple tied the knot back in 1973 and ever since then, their bond grew stronger and stronger with time.
Although Amitabh and Jaya are not known for the public display of affection but on the eve of their 46th wedding anniversary, Amitabh shared the very peculiar circumstances surrounding their wedding. On a special post in his blog, Amitabh delved deeper into the details of when and how he decided to marry Jaya.
According to Amitabh, he was supposed to go to a vacation with Jaya and their freinds. However, his father, Harivansh Rai Bachchan told him he could go after the two were married. Amitabh and Jaya were dating at that time.
He said that he had promised his friends that if Zanjeer became a hit (and it did), he would take his friends on a holiday to London.
Amitabh wrote,
“Seeking or rather informing parents that we were a group of friends going to England .. who all are going came to the query from Babuji .. names disclosed .. Jaya is also going with you .. you both are alone .. yes .. if you have to go marry and go,” he wrote on his blog.
That was when Amitabh and Jaya decided to tie the knot. In fact, they got married the very next day and caught their flight to London the same night they got married.
Amitabh further wrote,
“I dress up in formal marriage Indian .. get into my car and want to drive to Malabar Hill where her friends lived and where the ceremony was to be done .. my driver Nagesh, pushes me out and insist he would drive me to the wedding .. the substitute for the tradition horse… off I went .. wedding over in a few hours .. done .. Mr and Mrs proclaimed .. over !!.”
On the occasion, Abhishek Bachchan shared a sweet picture of his parents with the caption,
“Happy Anniversary to the parentals! Love you both eternally. #46andcounting.”
