We love to hate them and at times we even love to love them. Sometimes they are seen wiping tears while at other times we also find them plotting, conspiring and being every bit of the mean and bitchy vamps that they can be! Gone are the days when we use to see those oh-so-loving mommy-in-laws on TV. Now is the age of the ultra glam, super chic and the fashionista mother in law. Lets take a look at a few of them!
Suchitra Pillai as Suraiya Abdullah in Beintehaa (Colours)
This lanky dusky former model has never ceased to turn heads. Last seen as Mehek Ahuja in 24 on Colours, Suchitra is now back playing the mean momma-in-law in Beintehaa. More than her antics what has caught our attention is her look. Dark red lips, that oh-so-sexy long black hair and some gorgeous designer sarees with amazing blouses, she looks every inch the powerful modern woman. And when she is not plotting against her bahu Alia, she is mouthing some flawless urdu that just adds to her appeal.
Monica Bedi as Gumaan Laxminandan Vyas in Saraswatichandra (Star Plus)
She is beautiful and fresh as ever. Before this we have only seen her in reality shows and in her first fiction as Gumaan, Monica has nailed it and how! She is spiteful, mean, greedy yet sophisticated, soft and pretty. Playing the perfectly bitchy mother in law to Jenifer Winget, Monica is the step mother to Gautam Rode aka Saras. Her vicious intents and manipulative attitude is very convincing. Add to that her beauty and subtly styled sarees, Monica is a total #win here. Although the former (and controversial) girlfriend of underworld don Abu Salem says she wouldn’t like to do any more negative roles, we are already hoping to see more of her on TV.
Deepshikha Nagpal as Pam Yashvardhan Kapoor in Madhubala – Ek Ishq Ek Junoon (Colous)
Much as we are happy to see her back on TV doing what she does best (play the vamp, silly!), this gorgeous beauty seems to have kept it simple in the show. Her sarees are not as glamorous as we expect out of her, yet her decked up Kohl laden eyes do much the talking. It is one of her first out-an-out bitchy role as she puts it and she is loving every bit of it! Playing mother to Abhay Kapoor (Gunjan Utreja), Pam is money minded and all she thinks about is herself. What we like is the ease with which Deepshikha has been pulling this role off.
Sujatha Sehgal as Gayatridevi Raghuvanshi in Desh ki Beti Nandini (Sony TV)
She is one political leader who is always wearing designer sarees and classy make up! She is powerfull, high profile and knows her business well! When she forces her son Rajveer to marry Nandini against his wishes by threatening to kill herself, you know she means it! What appeals is the way Sujatha is carrying off the role of a no-nonsense political honcho, with her tight buns and serious demeanor.
Who is your favourite mom-in-law on screen and why? We would love to know!
