The movie Sridevi Bungalow starring Internet sensation Priya Prakash Varrier and directed by Prasanth Mambully has been in the news for all the wrong reasons. Ever since the trailer launch, the movie is mired in controversy over the insensitive portrayal of late veteran actress Sridevi. The movie is receiving criticism left and right even before it’s release. The makers of the movie, however, deny that the movie is based on Sridevi’s life.
Even the lead actress, Priya Prakash went on to defend the movie, but could not refuse or accept whatever it is based on the life of Sridevi.
She said, “Sridevi is just the name of my character in the movie. Who would want to create such controversies? I think the curiosity surrounding the trailer is good and we have to leave it to the audience to judge if the film is based on the veteran actress Sridevi ma’am.”
We don’t know what Priya meant by “the curiosity surrounding the trailer is good”. People are outraged by the trailer. The number of dislikes on the video is four times the number of likes. Most people first heard of it as the movie which tried to cash upon someone’s death.
While the makers and the lead actress maintain their claim that it has no connection to Sridevi or her death, the trailer says otherwise.
In the movie, the name of the protagonist is Sridevi, which is played by Priya Prakash. For once, consider it a coincidence.
The protagonist also happens to be an actress. Another coincidence, we guess.
Not just an actress, she is a superstar and so was Sridevi. Coincidence?
To top it off, she also dresses like Sridevi. One more ‘coincidence’ to the list.
But then, she dies in a bathtub, the way veteran actor Sridevi died. Still coincidence?
People have been calling it shameful and disgusting. This is how twitteratis have been responding to the trailer-
Such a shameful and disgusting act it is by the makers of #SrideviBungalow to depict the legendary actress in such a disgraceful manner. Utter nonsense and rubbish it is. I want the Indian Film Fraternity to take strong action on it. The departed soul deserves respect. 🙏🙏🙏

The teaser of sleazefest masquerading as a movie #SrideviBungalow is a dirty & ugly attempt to tarnish the image of an Indian icon. The movie has to be banned! Nobody should be allowed to get away with such a cheap act for fame & mileage. #Sridevi

Yes, it can be a coincidence tht her name in film is Sridevi and she is actress in the film
But how can you show the acteress named Sridevi in bathtub and then say tht it has nothing to do with Sridevi's life and death?#SrideviBungalow @arjunk26 @SrideviBKapoor— Monica A Malhotra (@monica_sunil) January 15, 2019
