Your Hair; Flaunt It As You Color It

Hair is the soul to your beauty; it just promises you a defining characteristic. To all those girls who love getting a makeover to give an extra edge to your personality, colouring your hair is the best start. Hair colour ultimately gives a new look, amplifies your fashion game and obviously gives you that extra confidence which is just so necessary!

Now, since we have established that the millennial women are more or less not so typical and are on free will to experiment, while some of you might want to experiment with your hair colour and risk it all, but most of you wouldn’t. A Careful research and an essential best friend talk on ‘which hair colour’ would magically transform you is the only requirement here.

Before you choose your hair colour, get these facts straight, as they might be of help and will ease all that worrying over the colour chart. First and foremost know your shade of skin and the undertones. A pigment called melanin is responsible for the colour of our skin, hair and eyes. The shades of the skin can be lighter, darker and medium, while these can change with climatic conditions, what remains constant are the undertones. We have three undertones- warm, cool and neural with yellow and olive hues.

Check which undertone are you

To know which undertone your skin has, you can do the following:

The sun check

Go out in the sunlight for a few minutes and see how your skin reacts to it. If you find your skin tanned, then know you have a warm undertone and if your skin burns and turns shades of red, then realise you have a cool undertone.

Believe your eyes

The colour of your eyes is the best way to understand your skin tones. People with blue or green shades have a cool undertone and the one with brown or gold coloured eyes have a warm undertone.

The Jewellery Meter

You can know your undertone by the jewellery you put on. Put a piece of jewellery on your wrist in appropriate sunlight. If gold colour suits you more then you have a warm undertone and if silver suits you more, you are a cool-toned person. Now, if you can’t decider either, then understand that your undertone is neutral.

Since you got a hold on your undertone now, it’s time to choose the colours.

The Brown

Brown has been the most selected colour for hair colouring. Although not much of an attention seeker, this colour is just subtle, sweet and nice on your hair, giving your hair a dimension yet not highlighting it too much. For a warm undertone skin, go for shades such as ash brown, iced chocolate, mushroom or light brown (fair to medium skin tones) and chocolate brown and cool undertones, go for shades such as mahogany, toffee, cinnamon(medium skin tone) or a chestnut brown(all shades of skin).

Garnier

The Burgundy

This is a dark reddish-purple colour which tends towards brown. It best goes for yellow and olive coloured tones, especially with a dusky shade.

The Red

Red is really like a danger sign; if the colour goes wrong on your complexion, it definitely will look like a disaster. For fair-skinned, you can try out light red or copper red and for olive-based tones, choose blue-based reds which are darker.

Garnier

The Golden

Golden colour for an Indian woman comes out too unnatural and distractive; it just doesn’t go well with our skin tones. But if you are really persistent to have it, you can always combine it with brown shades and get some streaks. Quite harmful to your hair by the way, because it is mostly bleached.

Thinking out of the box

Well, if you have a desire to look completely different, fashionable and don’t care of what everybody thinks, go or baby pink, electric blue, a deep purple plum colour, a turquoise green, fire reds or just ash grey. These colours are uncommon, but they are statement makers. You must be too confident to carry them, keep in mind not to spoil your hair too much.

Ask your Stylist

Urban clap

The other important consideration for hair colouring is getting it done from an experienced hairstylist. You cannot experiment with colour and stylist together. Seek professional advice on which technique the stylist will be using from like Root colour, Balayage, Ombre hair colour, Lowlights, Hair with highlights or Global hair colour. Also, keep in mind the kind of tones and shades of your skin. Lastly, once you are done with colouring your hair, get stylists recommended shampoo and conditioners to give your hair the best care and protection it deserves!
