The Early Days
Aahana Kumra’s career is in an incredibly exciting phase now with interesting roles and projects coming her way, especially in the web space. Her performances in films like Lipstick Under My Burkha, The Accidental Prime Minister and web series like Rangbaaz, Bombers was praised. The road ahead is also looking bright with good projects like YRF’s magnum opus Shamshera in the pipeline. With so much buzz surrounding this talented actress, we thought why not have a look back at her career and how it shaped up to reach this point.
Aahana Kumra’s film career began with American television miniseries Bollywood Hero. This was followed by a few short films such as Mai and Samjhana. After which, she went on to star in major TV shows, including the Amitabh Bachchan starrer show Yudh and the thriller series Agent Raghav. She even worked on a South Indian film titled Kudla Cafe (released in Tulu language). Alongside these projects, she continued to take on experimental roles in short films like Queen of Hearts and Siberia.

2017 saw the release of the thriller film The Blueberry Hunt where she starred alongside Naseeruddin Shah. Though the film had a quirky premise, it did not work with the critics or at the box office. But then later that year, Lipstick Under My Burkha released and Aahana’s career was never the same. Playing one of the central protagonists of the movie, Lipstick Under My Burkha went on to become one of the critically acclaimed films of the year. It won awards across various international film festivals such as the Tokyo International Film Festival, Mumbai International Film Festival and many more.
Conquering the web space
After all the critical acclaim she received for Lipstick Under My Burkha, she continued her success story in the Indian web space with the Arre web series Official Chukyagiri. Her character Rati brought in some interesting shades of grey that caught people’s attention. She went on to reprise the role in the sequel series Official CEOgiri.
Then, she hit the big league when she secured a prominent role in the Amazon Prime web series Inside Edge. Playing the role of Arvind Vashishth’s (Angad Bedi) estranged wife Shahana, she made her presence felt in the midst of a massive star cast. The series went on to be nominated for Best Drama series at 46th International Emmy Awards.
After being a part of an ensemble cast in the previous shows, she gradually moved towards central roles with web series like It Happened In Hong Kong and Rangbaaz. Both the series brought her immense critical and public acclaim. In 2019, she took the incredibly challenging role of Priyanka Gandhi in the biographical drama The Accidental Prime Minister. Later in the year, she went on to star in Bombers, the first sports drama web series in India as Sanjana. Her performance was seen to stand out among the massive star cast and won people’s hearts.
