“Ranbir Makes Me Feel Different,” Says Alia

Alia Bhatt has come a long way since she made her debut in KJo’s SOTY in 2012. After giving a slew of successful movies all these years, Alia’s Kalank somehow missed the mark. The movie didn’t perform well at the box office. Alia, however, has gracefully accepted it and moved on. The actress is gearing up for the release of her next project, Bramhastra, in which she would be sharing screen space with her beau Ranbir Kapoor. The movie’s release has been postponed from Christmas 2019 to summer 2020. It would be the first part of the three-part franchise.

In an interview by Pinkvilla, Alia Bhatt talked about the movie and how she is invested in the series which may take as long as 10 years to complete. She also touched base upon whether or not she would be taking projects in between.

Alia says,

“I can definitely do other films in between, but the fact that I’m getting to collaborate on such a big vision makes me happy and excited. I know, for a fact, that it will probably make a huge global impact if it’s received and appreciated. It’s a vision of some other kind, but at the same time, it’s rooted in the Indian sentiment. BRahmastra is the most powerful weapon that was used in every battle – the Ramayana and Mahabharata. In our film, there’s a reference to the Indian mythology which is why we launched our first logo in the sky. There’s a reason for it. The film is set in contemporary, modern times but the world is deeply a part of our mythology. You feel the magnitude and the amazingness of what’s possible to get out of our own Indian roots and the universe. There’s Amit ji’s dialogue which says ‘jisme poore brahmand ki shakti bhari hui hai‘.”

Alia adds,

“The simpler way to put it will be the guiding force behind Brahmastra is love. Love is an important part of the whole series and it makes this big world more beautiful.”

Alia also talks about how she perceives Ranbir professionally, as her co-actor. She says,

“I have always loved Ranbir as an actor – he’s just so fabulous on screen, he’s powerful yet so honest and complete. I’m feeling that even while we work together. It’s so nice to just see him be. He really inspires me to be a better version of myself at work. His work ethics are commendable and I’m still learning from him. I’ll continue learning from him. Even with Bachchan sir, who’s so giving and professional as an actor, it’s been amazing. His voice can alone give you goosebumps. The world is relatable. Brahmastra is not going to be a film, it will be an experience.”

Further telling about how she fell in love with RK over the course of the project, Alia says,

“I’m actually very glad that the first time he and I are coming together is for a film like this. There was a time when I used to think – ‘When will I get to work with him? What will happen? And then this happened. Also, it has been a while since Brahmastra was conceptualised – it was five years ago right after Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. That was also the time Ayan and I bonded. It was a very big moment for me when he offered me this part. I wasn’t who I’m today then but he still entrusted in me. It was a big deal for me and from that day to now, I have always looked forward to being on that set everyday. Because it’s a new challenge each day and it has given me abandon as an actor. I have always felt that when Ranbir and I come together, it has to be magical and literally, it can’t get more magical than this. I’m saying all this with great hope and not being pompous about it. We’re working very hard towards that.”

Alia had been a private person all these years in Bollywood and she never allowed anyone to peep into her personal life and relationships. She was asked how all that changed after RK. To which the actress replied,

“Ranbir makes me feel different. Yes, it’s true that I was always a little wary of baring my private life out there, but with him, there’s a deep sense of comfort. He’s an amazing soul and there’s so much that I get to learn from him everyday, not just as an artiste but also as a human being. I would just say that I’m in a happy space both professionally and personally.”

On the professional front, Alia would soon begin shooting for SS Rajamouli’s period saga RRR. She also has Karan Johar’s Takht in her kitty as well as Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Inshallah.
