The biggest and the most celebrated fashion night, Met Gala 2021 finally took place in New York and we can assure you it was all the extravagance one expects from the red carpet of the event. The event was attended by many big names of the industries like Rihanna, Gigi Hadid, Timothee Chalamet, and others.

Theme of Met Gala 2021

The Met Gala celebrates the industry’s creative spirit. Every Met Gala has its own theme, and in 2021, the focus was on the inventiveness of American fashion. After being cancelled last year due to the corona outbreak, this year’s show was all glitz and glamour while maintaining the Covid’19 Protocol. The event was held to raise funds for the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

“America: A Lexicon of Fashion exhibition” was this year’s theme making the looks unpredictable and exciting. Billie Eilish, tennis player Naomi Osaka, actor Timothée Chalamet, and poet Amanda Gorman co-hosted the event. From looks inspired by the Matrix film franchise to being incognito, let’s take a look at this year’s extraordinary looks from the Met Gala 2021.

1. Lil’ Nas X & his show

One of the major highlights of the event was Lil’ Nas’s red carpet shut down outfit show. He stripped off the layers of ornate Versace to reveal the inner sparkling catsuit. With his Met Gala outfit for 2021, Lil Nas X created a three-part LGBTQ+ American fantasy. He walked the red carpet with a grandiose cloak that oozes regality while also symbolizing the concealment of one’s real nature. Removing the coat, he revealed the glittering Medusa-adorned armour, which served as a metaphor of protection against the biases that a Black, gay person faces. Finally, the armour is removed, revealing a skin-tight bodysuit that symbolizes living life as your own, unprotected self. We loved the story as well the outfits that were displayed to pull it off making the look the star of the night.

2. The Incognito Kim Kardashian Look

When it comes to unpredictability, you can vouch for Kim to pull off something unique as always. Kim wore a Balenciaga bodysuit and matching mask to the Met Gala 2021, covering her face once more. Kim Kardashian, the PR machine, wore an all-enveloping black dress that covered her face and torso making it one of the most talked-about looks of the night. Demna Gvasalia, the creative director of fashion company Balenciaga, created the unique design and is rumoured to have.

3. Kendall Jenner in an embellished see-through look

The supermodel decided on Givenchy for her appearance at this year’s Met Gala. Audrey Hepburn’s appearance in My Fair Lady was Kendall’s inspiration. She looked stunning in Givenchy’s see-through embroidered gown with a grazing long trail following her. Her dress had rhinestone and beautiful shoulder panels. With her hair tied in a chic low bun and her makeup as soft as possible Kendal created quite an impression with the dress accessorized with a bedazzled choker.

4. The IT couple- Rihanna and ASAP Rocky

Making a last-minute entry with her beau ASAP Rocky, Rihanna closed the event in a beautiful Balenciaga overcoat and matching cap. The black blanket-inspired dress was a custom look by Demna Gvasalia. Her Boyfriend, ASAP Rocky donned an ERL-created quilt-inspired ensemble. With the enormous size and black ruffles as a stylish take on the all-American style, Rihanna proved that she is the undisputed queen of the Met Gala.

5. Jennifer Lopez’s Boss Lady Look

Making her Met Gala couple debut this year with Ben Affleck, JLo made sure every head was turned towards her. JLo donned a brown embroidered gown by Ralph Lauren with a plunging neckline and a thigh-high slit. She wore it with a shearling coat made of imitation fur and a matching mask. Jennifer wore a plunging neckline, feathery trim, a thigh-high split, and a matching cowboy hat in her rustic costume. She completed the outfit with her own DSW metallic silver strappy stilettos.

6. Gigi Hadid in a Monochrome Prada Gown

Gigi Hadid is always looked forward to when it comes to fashion and red carpet events. Hadid was dressed in a white column gown with a rear thigh-high slit and black leather gloves. Gigi debuted dramatic red hair pulled up into a high ponytail. The Ivory-colored strapless gown was by Prada, accessorized with a crystal-embellished Prada logo barrette. With a nude pink pout, sculpted dusty rose cheeks, powder blue smokey eyes, mascara-laden eyelashes, and filled-in eyebrows, Gigi upped the glam factor. Apart from the stunning looks, the reunion of the supermodel Bffs, Kendall, and Gigi at the event also made it to the paparazzi.

7. The Fiery Red look by Megan Fox

Megan came to own the event and she did not disappoint. In a shimmering red lace-up number by Peter Dundas, Megan set the red carpet on fire with her sexy look. The tie-up dress had a thigh-high slit and a long trail in the back. Her red lip was complemented by her cat eyeliner, which completed her look. She wore her bangs curled up and her jet black hair braided to perfection and accessorized her look with Lorraine Schwartz red earrings and Jimmy Choo red strappy heels to complete her fiery red carpet look.

8. Billie Eilish & Fairytale in a look

Billie Eilish surprised everybody as she chose a light pink ball gown for her look at the Met Gala 2021. Oscar de la Renta provided her with a nude tulle gown. Her corseted gown featured a 15-foot train and a colossal skirt. During the design process, she sought out a typically feminine style, presenting Oscar de la Renta with reference pictures of Grace Kelly and Marilyn Monroe. Eilish went on to say that her costume was designed with the “planet” and the “environment” in mind. She also claimed that she donned her MET Gala gown knowing that her designers will create designs that were “totally fur-free.” We loved Billie Eilish’s risky choice and can confirm that she aced it very well.

9. Naomi Osaka’s Cultural Tribute Dress

Like her Tennis trophies, with making her debut at the Met Gala this year Naomi Osaka won the fashion crown as well. The 23-year-old star wore a custom Louis Vuitton gown with a purple and blue swirl-print gown with a sweetheart-style neckline and an extravagant black ruffled cape to the 2021 Met Gala. The design that covers the bustier and skirt was inspired by a digital watercolor painting by Osaka’s sister Mari and features Koi fish as a homage to their shared Japanese ancestry. She added drama to the look by wearing it with black boots and a voluminous hairdo adorned with red glitter. Cordae, her boyfriend, joined her on the Met red carpet.

10. Iman in a Harris Reed Gold Headpiece

Iman Abdulmajid, a Somali-American model stole the show in her extraordinary gold headpiece that made quite a statement at the show. The legendary supermodel graced the red carpet in an otherworldly handmade brocade jumpsuit by British-American designer Harris Reed, which was coupled with a tiered, feathery overskirt and customized matching headpiece. Her headgear was paired with a hoop skirt cage that was likewise embellished with gold-painted feathers. She wore the hollow skirt over a strapless metallic gold jumpsuit and paired it with matching chandelier earrings, bracelets, and rings. From the drama of the silhouette to the jaw-dropping accessories, the style was all red carpet gold.
