Traveling with a baby means fun unlimited, but it can also get very taxing. You have to keep so many things in mind, and the list is endless. From my own experience, I would say avoid travelling with the baby till he/she is 3 months old. Also, plan your holiday at least a month in advance. Take advice from your doctors about the Dos and Dont’s.
Now the fun part! Just as you pack your sac, make sure you pack a ‘baby-bag’ as well. Here are ten essential tips to make travel fun with your baby.
Car seat
While travelling by car, make sure the baby is seated in the rear seat. Make sure the car seat is fixed properly and all the belts are threaded correctly. Adjust the harness as per baby’s convenience. While travelling by road, always buy removable screen shades for the windows. These would protect your baby from sun. If you are planning to travel by airplane, buy an FAA-approved car seat. While takeoff and landing your baby may get cranky. Air travel needs special attention.
Stroller
A lightweight stroller is a must while taking a flight, baby in tow. It is also known as an umbrella stroller. As it is light and compact, it is very convenient to carry it. A baby stroller comes handy when you have to change flights.
Slings
Slings play an important role as you don’t have to physically carry your baby. It is also known as a front carrier. You must carry a sling so that your hands and free and you can carry your luggage with ease or be hassle-free while completing formalities at the airport.
Toys
Always carry your baby’s favourite toys. Carry lightweight toys that are easy to pack and carry like small soft toys, musical toys or teething rings. This will keep the baby entertained and occupied.
Baby food
If your baby is below 3 months of age, and you are breastfeeding her, you need not carry anything. But it’s very important that you drink lot of water and take liquid diet. It will help you to stay hydrated. If your baby has started eating solid stuff, carry dry packets of solid food. Carry all food items which your baby can’t do without. Also, carry all the accessories like bottle, sipper, spoon, bowl, plate etc.
First aid box
Don’t forget to carry a first-aid-box with you. It will help you to deal with some minor medical problems. Carry prescription medication. Also, note down contact numbers of your family doctor and paediatrician. It will come handy in case of emergency.
Diaper
Carry a number of ‘easy to wear’ diapers with you so that you can quickly change anywhere in a public area. Always carry at least two diapers in your hand bag. Also Carry diaper rashes cream, lotion and enough disposable plastic bags to dump dirty diapers.
Clothing
Carry enough clothes. Pack her bag as per the weather conditions. If it’s going to be cold, carry extra woollens. Carry at least two dresses in your hand bag for emergency. Also carry stuff like plastic-coated bibs, blankets, baby towels and baby hat.
Essential things
Carry all that your baby needs on a daily basis like baby oil, baby soap, baby lotion, baby shampoo, baby powder, baby comb, baby wipes, sunscreen, sanitizer etc.
Potty seat
Potty seat is not a must. But if your baby is used to it, then carry it. Otherwise leave it because it is difficult to carry.
