When you’re walking the most-watched red carpet in the world, what would you wear? Would you want to be praised as the best dressed or just play it safe? Or would you take a chance that would invite mockery? International fashion agencies have their eye on the carpet waiting to score the dresses. In the past, the outfits were extraordinarily radical and gained all kinds of criticisms, but most of the outfits this year were simple and elegant. Here are some of the unique looks from the red carpet this year and we will leave you to judge which ones are the best!
Classic Hollywood Charm
Best Actress Renee Zellweger was dressed in a shimmery one-shoulder white gown sequined with blue and pink (take a really close look!) by Armani Prive. The skintight dress defined her hourglass figure beautifully and was complete with white pointed heels.
Best Supporting Actress, Laura Dern, walked the carpet wearing a pale pink gown by Armani Prive, which was highlighted with black crystals. Both the women reflected classic Hollywood styles of elegance as if they knew they were going to carry home a statue.
The cape game was good with Natalie Portman and Brie Larson donning unique styles of the cape. While Larson’s cape was actually an extension of her sleeve, Portman’s Dior cape was embroidered with names of female directors who had missed out nominations (If you take a look at the list of nominees for directors, you won’t find any women there).
Cynthia Erivo’s white and silver gown and Regina King’s pink Versace were simple and stunning. Don’t just stop at the dress, check out Ervio’s manicure too! Julia Butters, the 10-year old actress from Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, wore a pretty pink ball gown and carried a sandwich in her crystal bag!
Margot Robbie was giving out hot Halloween vibes with her black gown and red lipstick. But it was her pendant and sleeves that stole the spotlight. Charlize Theron gave her company in a full black train dress.
Styles That Stood Out
Janelle Monae’s custom Ralph Lauren was covered in more than 168,000 Swarovski crystals! The gown was hooded and form-fitting and definitely one of the unique looks of this year.
Billie Eilish needs no introduction when it comes to her fashion style. She wore a loose white suit and was decked from toe to nail in Chanel. Her extra long black nails were definitely noticed. It was black, white, green and glitter!
Sandra Oh’s Elie Saab golden gown might have seemed a bit too much compared to the other outfits of the evening, but she managed to pull it off fantastically. The golden gown was enhanced by rose ruffles on the sleeves and hem. Adding to the gold was Rebel Wilson in her custom sequined gown by Jason Wu.
Kristen Wiig wore a bright red extra ruffle dress that drew a lot of attention. Social media has plenty to say on this attire. (Check it out for yourself.) Florence Pugh was dressed in green by Louis Vuitton, complete with matching heels. This red and green added a splash of colour to the otherwise gold and silver evening.
