Thanks to increased awareness, all of us try to do some form of exercise every day to lose weight or simply to stay fit. However, at times, it becomes difficult to take out even 15 minutes because the schedules are so tight.

We had an exclusive chat with Tara Stiles who visited India recently. She is a former Ford model, a dancer and a conventional yoga teacher. She is based in New York and she is often called the yoga rebel! She is known for her simplicity and easy-way yoga style for all. She also is Reebok India’s global yoga ambassador.

Here is the exclusive tête-à-tête:

Q: Most of our readers are office-going ladies, who often don’t get much time to exercise. How can one accommodate yoga in today’s fast-paced life?

A: If you are a morning person or a night person, it’s better to do 10 minutes of yoga every day. You can either do it before going to bed or wake up early. Once you make this a routine, you will start eating better, and you will feel better. If you are a working woman, you can start your day by doing yoga or you can do it after coming back from work. Even if you do it for 10 to 15 minutes, it’s good for your body.

Q: What is Strala Yoga all about?

A: The concept of non-limiting, open space is integral to Strala Yoga. You can accomplish more if there is more space. Similarly, if there is more space in your mind, you can tap into intuition and generate passion and feel free. The best part of doing yoga is you are moving your entire body and there is a lot going on. I grew up doing dance and also meditation. Yoga is very segmented on body parts.

Q: Women in India are worried about weight loss. What is your advice for them?

A: Worrying about weight loss is the worst thing you can do to yourself. Just start doing 15 minutes of yoga every day. This will make you feel better. I have a book coming up in fall. It’s all about food and how to feel better. It talks about various recipes and you can do yoga when you are stressed out.

Q: What kind of music do you play in your studios?

A: People want to feel relatable and relaxed. We play lot of contemporary songs, people feel good about themselves and they think they can do it.

Q: How has your association with Reebok been?

A: It has been a fun journey with Reebok. We started in 2012 and created our yoga clothing line. I will continue to support that. My goal is to help yoga instructors also and teach people with freedom and ease. That was very important to me, so they helped me to do that. So, it’s not just about pair of pants and hoodie, although that’s real fun too! But all the clothes are easy-going and have different personalities attached with them. The clothes are about feeling good, yoga is also about feeling good. It’s great to meet so many people. They all have their own stories to tell. It’s just awesome to do this.

Q: Being a yoga teacher what do you eat?

A: Vegetarian mostly and fish occasionally.

What do you think?
