5 White Shirt Myths That You Might Not Be Aware of

A classic white shirt is a versatile garment — you can wear it to run errands, go brunching with friends or on a date night after work. Yet, no other garment is mired in myths as the white shirt. It’s time to bust myths and cue you into the many different ways you can wear this pristine garment.

MYTH #1: You can wear white in office only
Who says so? A linen, georgette, satin, cotton or silk well-fitted white shirt with ruffles or a bow/tie can be clubbed with hot pants or denim shorts or a well-cut floral, stripped or plain A-line skirt for that perfect day-wear! To make it look like an evening wear, you can also hold on to a long skirt and team a belt to close the look for that contemporary touch.

Team-it-up: Turn into a hot-stepper with ballerinas, gladiators or super bright glossy pumps. A beaded tie, metallic belt or jewellery, a crystal necklace and corset bags complete the look.white in office only

MYTH #2: Busty women should wear high-neck tops, it will cover up!
Well, no because that will only make you look more heavy on the front. Women who are busty should opt for a wide ‘V’ collared white shirt or a soft ruffle at the neckline. If at work, pair it pastel coloured trousers. For a casual look, a pair of pastel coloured shorts or floral skirts would look vibrant and fun.

Team-it-up: A light pendant is sure to add brownie points to your attire with flip-flops for a casual look or wedges with closed front for a formal look will do justice to the over all look.MYTH #2

MYTH #3: You can’t be a campus hottie in whites

Blahhhh, ofcourse you can! You will stand out in your smart whites in a crowd of blacks, greys and wanna-be-neons. Try white linen/cotton shirt crop tops that aren’t much cropped, fold the sleeves – if required and wear it with a pair of indigo jeans.

Team-it-up: Casual shoes will surely catch the eye. Raise the bar with a neck-piece such as a bright locket or scarf or funky bracelets.MYTH #3

MYTH #4: Wearing white after 50 will make you look matronly
La lala lies! A white shirt in a soft fabric like satin/silk/linen, well cut with pin tucks, lace, trimmings or piping can be clubbed with a pair of straight-cut steel grey pants. Or a fitted jacket shirt. Step into blocked or square heels and see heads turn.

Team-it-up: Have few pearl bracelets peeping out of the cuffs, pearl chains, preferably in a deep colour, will add sophistication and elegance. You can notch it up a bit with Swarovski buttons on the cuff sleeves. And voila, where’s the matron, we ask.

MYTH #5: Whites are for politicians ONLY

A full-sleeved white shirt with a pair of fitted blue jeans will make you look cacual yet chic. We especially like trend-setting white dip back shirts. Wear it with bright coloured shoes on weekends and no one will ever dare to associate whites with politicians! Never wear front-open shirts too tight as they stretch at the buttons and take away the cut and style of the garment!
Team-it-up: Add a smart metal strap watch with it for the classy look, if needed.Myth 5

So here goes the myth of pairing whites with the odds, out-of-the-box! Try these out, and remember to keep it simple yet stylish!
