As we celebrate the Republic Day and the glory of our unsung warriors and cherish the ideals which formed the basis of our Constitution, there are many Bollywood movies released that have beautifully captured the glory of the freedom struggles and even more enhanced them.

1. Border (1997)
When we are speaking of patriotic movies there is no way we are not talking about this all-time favourite movie that managed to ignite the spark of patriotism among Indians. The movie was based on a set of Indo-Pakistan war of 1971 starring Sunny Deol, Sunil Shetty, Jackie Shroff, Akshaye Khanna, Raakhee, Tabu, Pooja Bhatt, and other actors which is directed by J.P.Dutta.

2. Lagaan (2001)
Lagaan is an all-time classic film nominated for the Oscars in the Best Foreign Language Film in 2002. Ashutosh Gowariker’s ‘Lagaan’ revolves around a small village in Central India in 1893, who find themselves in an extraordinary situation as an arrogant British army officer challenges them to a game of cricket, as a wager to avoid paying the taxes they owe. The film starring Aamir Khan and Gracy Singh is a must-watch if you haven’t to date!

3. Swades (2004)
Ashutosh Gowariker’s movie starring Shahrukh Khan, Gayatri Joshi, Kishori Ballal is a cult classic. The plot revolves around Shahrukh Khan as Mohan, who is an Indian expatriate employed with NASA who travels to his country to track down his beloved nanny, Kaveri, and works towards reforming his village.

4. Rang De Basanti (2006)
Rakeyesh Omprakash Mehra’s Rang De Basanti is about 5 youngsters fighting against the corruption of their government. Aamir Khan, Siddharth, Atul Kulkarni, Soha Ali Khan, Sharman Joshi, Cyrus Sahukar, Kunal Kapoor, and British actress Alice Patten played the lead roles in the movie.

5. Raazi (2018)
Meghna Gulzar’s Raazi captures the journey of an undercover RAW agent Sehmat Khan who is married is married into a Pakistani family by her father so that she can get some valuable piece of information about the enemy. The movie starring Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal is an adaptation of Harinder Singh Sikka’s novel ‘Calling Sehmat’.

6. Uri: The Surgical Strike (2019)
The movie starring Vicky Kaushal, Yami Gautam, Paresh Rawal with other brilliant actors is indeed the best pick for Republic Day. The movie is based on true events where Major Vihaan Singh Shergill of the Indian Army leads a covert operation against a group of militants who attacked a base in Uri, Kashmir, in 2016 and killed many soldiers.

7. Shershaah (2021)
No, we aren’t getting over this movie anytime soon. Vishnuwardhan’s Shershaah is a tribute to Param Vir Chakra awardee Captain Vikram Batra. The film stars Sidharth Malhotra as Vikram Batra and Kiara Advani as his girlfriend Dimple Cheema. The film portrayed the life of Captain Vikram Batra from his first posting in the army to his death in the Kargil War. Shershaah had become the most-watched Indian film on the platform during its release.
