In today’s world where a majority of 20-somethings are still discovering what career paths they want to choose, a seven-year-old boy has earned a fortune reviewing toys on Youtube. His earnings from 2018 alone stands at staggering $22 million which roughly translates to Rs. 155 crore doubling his earnings from the previous year.
His name is Ryan and he has made it to the first place in Forbes’ ranking of 2018’s highest-paid Youtubers in the world jumping from 8th place in 2017. His last name and location are still not made public to protect his privacy. According to Forbes, Ryan’s ToyReviews generated about $22 million in pretax income from 1 June 2017 to 1 June 2018 as compared to $11 of the previous year.
With tough competition from well known international Youtubers, Ryan even surpassed the online sensation Jake Paul whose earnings stand at $22,500,000 and Swedish gamer Felix Kjellberg who has whopping 72.5 million youtube followers. Ryan himself has amassed around 17 million followers and about 26 billion views.
As per his mother, he has been an avid watcher of toy reviews, especially ones that focused on Tank Engine.
One day, Ryan asked his mother, “How come I’m not on youtube when all the other kids are”?
That’s when his mother decided to start Ryan’s very own youtube channel. His parents then took him to get his first toy- a Lego train set- and rest the history!
They started ToyReviews and things took a turn when a video of their channel went viral in July 2015. The video showed Ryan enthusiastically opening and reviewing a box which contained more than 100 toys from Pixar’s car series. The video received more than 934 million views.
Here is the video that made Ryan’s channel an overnight success-
At the beginning of this year, Ryan even stuck a deal with Walmart to sell a toy line named after Ryan, called ‘Ryan’s World’ according to Reuters.
