Recently, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and IKEA Foundation collaborated for the “Sahi Disha Initiative” with the aim to provide women access to job and livelihood opportunities. For this scheme, the total collaboration duration between these two organizations is of five years. The scheme will target one million women from the rural areas of five states in India.

The main objective of the ‘Sahi Disha Initiative’ is to make women self-reliant through counselling and providing services related to skill development. This campaign was launched on 18th March 2021. The five states which are going to be part of this campaign are Haryana, Delhi NCR, Maharashtra, Telangana and Karnataka.

1. Empower Women

This scheme will definitely empower women from rural India as it will provide them with job opportunities that will give them the right direction. Also, this will make women financially independent and will improve their economic status and well-being.

2. Provide Psycho-Social Support to Women

The highlight of this scheme is that it will address the issues and hurdles that impact the livelihood opportunities of women living in rural areas. With the help of counselling, this scheme will not only provide women with the solution to tackle these hurdles but also will give them psycho-social support to try and spread their wings by establishing new ventures.

3. Challenge the Gender Stereotype

Undoubtedly, the ‘Disha Initiative’ will challenge the gender stereotype of rural India and will help to bring a positive change for women in society.

4. Encourage Women Enterprises

The campaign will help and encourage women to establish their enterprises by learning new skills with the help of this scheme.

5. Will Make Women Self-reliant

For sure, the ‘Sahi Disha Initiative’ will make women living in rural India independent and self-reliant in their areas. This will mark their contribution to the journey of nation-building.
