Warning: The post holds the potential to make you hungry. Reading when having no access to food around, is not recommended.
1.Mason Jar Salads – They are all over Pinterest and unlike many projects on the site which may not make sense or be easy to do in real life, this idea is both, easy and smart. The mason jar salad stems from the fact that carrying a salad in a lunch box is difficult, owing to the fact that it’ll get soggy pretty quickly. So layer the salad ingredients neatly in the jar and enjoy a fresh, crunchy salad, even hours later!
2.Kale – Already a rage in the West, Kale is a green, leafy vegetable packed with nutrients! Our friends from the other side of the world took to it like a fish takes to water. There were Kale salads, Kale soup, Kale smoothies and what not! While we don’t see the vegetable coming down to your friendly neighbourhood store as yet, we definitely see it in the gourmet stores and the menus of restaurants this year.
3.Waffles – Every dessert has its day, well technically season. It was cupcakes, then cake pops and now we see the mania spreading over to waffles. A lot of cafes have now included waffles in their menu and we’ve even seen waffle cafes and kiosks coming up all over the country.
4.Bite Sized Foods and Respective Caterers– Let’s face it, bite-sized portions have the ability to make any food look so much cuter not to forget the practical benefits of it, especially at parties. You don’t want to get your hands messy and nor do you want to sit down with a full plate. A bite sized food item gives you the freedom to just pop one in your mouth and roam around freely.
These days with people are looking to up the ante even for home parties and don’t mind shelling out a few bucks for nicer food, and thus, we’ll soon be seeing a spurt of home cooks who will only be catering to a relatively small crowd with a bite sized menu.
5. Beyond Muffins – Who says muffin trays can be used only to make muffins? There’s a whole lotta food out there we can make! A trend that has already caught on in the West, we can see the muffin mania hitting India soon! So who’s ready to eat a ham and bacon muffin?
6.Blue Velvet – You heard that right! Move over red velvet, it’s time for a different colour to take over. Okay seriously, just look at the picture. Do we need to say more?
7.Gluten Free Products – While there is a lot of awareness about gluten free products, there aren’t too many of them in the Indian market currently. However, seeing the growing awareness and demand, a lot of companies are looking to bring gluten free products to your nearby stores.
8.Very Berry, Beyond Strawberry – Blame it on the numerous cocktail recipes, dessert recipes, and more, but the blueberries and raspberries, which were a rare sight in the Indian market until a while back, are suddenly making their presence felt here. While currently they’re usually only found in the gourmet supermarkets, we see them making an appearance in the regular super marts too!
9.Ramen Burgers – Last year, we saw them here and there. At food festivals, in special menus, flea market food stalls and other such places. And they were a hit. The reactions were positive and people loved them! And this should have many, many restaurateurs seriously considering putting the ramen burger in their regular menu.
10.Better Breakfasts Joints, Including All Day Breakfasts– Gone are the days of simple breakfast menus consisting of 3-4styles of eggs, toast, croissant and cereal. These days, breakfast is fancy shmancy! Waffles, pancakes, exotic toppings in omelettes, bacon, ham and SO much more! Hence it should come as no surprise that eating out for breakfast really caught on last year. And keeping this trend in mind, we see lots of restaurants opening their doors early in the morning in 2015, or keep breakfast on menu, all day long. We are NOT complaining!
