Chef Garima Arora, the first Indian woman to win a Michilin Star, has also bagged the title of he Best Female Chef Of Asia 2019 for her restaurant named Gaa operating in Bangkok, Thailand. It was only last year in November that she became the first Indian woman to receive a Michelin star at 2019 Michelin Guide. Now, 4 months after the honour, Garima has another one to her kitty- the Best Female Chef of Asia, 2019.
The award ceremony would take place in Macau on March 26.
Garima has been revolutionising food and believes Indian food to be the future of modern cuisine.
She says,
“Indian food could be the future of modern cuisine. But then again it’s upto us Indian cooks to do justice to that.”
Garima worked briefly as a journalist before pursuing her interest in culinary arts. She packed her bags and went to Paris to learn culinary art from the best of the best after her short stint in journalism. After graduating from Le Cordon Bleu Paris in 2010, she worked at Noma in Copenhagen, learning alongside René Redzepi.
She then went on to be appointed as sous chef at Gaggan, the award-winning Bangkok restaurant which has held the No.1 position on the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list for four consecutive years.
In 2017, she started her three storey restaurant Gaa in Bangkok. Her restaurant flaunts a modern tasting menu using traditional Indian techniques and local Thai ingredients.
