With Social Media on the rise and various platforms being widely used, a whole new culture of using slang and acronyms is on a head start among the “Generation Z” and it is crazy how this generation has hoped on to these trends that it has almost become a new language. The sole mentality behind this is that texting becomes more ‘cooler’ and a lot more fun with the usage of slang, however not denying that using the abbreviations for certain words renders the process easier and quicker.

Not only this, phrases and slangs have a certain lifespan as well. So if you think you are in the loop, just because you can decode words like ‘LOL’ (laughing out loud) or ‘ YOLO’ (you only live once) you might need to update the dictionary as these are pretty outdated.

Now if you are a millennial or GEN X and you are often caught up thinking how outlandish these words are, don’t worry, you are not to be blamed and of course, it doesn’t make you any ‘less cool’. However, since it’s always good to stay ‘In the Know’, here’s a guide where we decode the slang dictionary of the GEN Z-ers.

1. CAP

It means to say something false or to lie. The phrase used is, ‘NO CAP’ which means ‘no lies’.

For eg: That was the best trip of my life, no cap.

2. SHEESH

This word is used to hype someone if they look good or do something praiseworthy. It could be used as a replacement for the word ‘damn’.

3. STAN

When someone is an ardent fan of a famous personality.

For eg: I stan Taylor Swift.

4. BAE

It means ‘Before Anyone Else’. It is usually used for a partner and sometimes even for best friends.

For eg: BAE is taking me on a date tonight.

5. FTW

Translating to ‘For the Win’, this is usually used to express victory and also used for people, places, or events that are highly admired

For eg: The football team FTW.

6. SMH

Literally means shaking my head in disappointment or disbelief.

For eg: I can’t believe you said that smh.

7. CEO (Of something)

It means being the best at something. It can be used seriously or in a sarcastic manner.

For eg: I am the CEO of making bad decisions.

8. SIMP

The word is used for someone who tries too hard to impress the person they like. They show excessive interest in them and are desperate for attention even when the feelings are not reciprocated.

For eg: John is such a Simp for Lara. She doesn’t even care that he exists.

9. FR

Literally meaning ‘For Real’. It is used to emphasize that someone is being truthful and it is also used to express shock or surprise.

For eg: I confessed my feelings for her, Fr this time.

Is this guy even fr, he is so stupid.

Now that you have cracked the GEN Z words, go ahead, flex ‘em (another slang for the word them).

What do you think?
