Winter is on its peak and to cope with it, you need a proper balanced diet. Sesame seeds (Til) are well known for its heating properties. Proper utilization of sesame seeds during winter will surely make you healthier.
Sesame is traditional oil seed which is a good source of calcium, magnesium, zinc, iron, phosphorus and vitamin B1, it also prevents high blood pressure, and protects the liver from oxidative damage.
Uses of sesame seeds
It is largely used in bakery products like bread, toasts, bread sticks, pizza, and pasta etc. It is also commonly used in riots like Methi Paratha, kulcha, Naan, or in spicy puris. People from Maharashtra widely use Sesame Seeds during Makar Sankranti festival, they make Til laddu and Til gul Poli. In the Southern part of India, you can find people using Sesame in curries, vegetables, and in different types of rice too.
Sprinkle sesame seeds on steamed broccoli and uses little lemon juice on it. It would be a delicious salad. Add roasted sesame powder into vegetables like eggplant, bitter gourd, mix vegetables it would definitely enrich the flavor.
Finely grind 1 cup of roasted sesame seeds, 1tbsp dry chili powder, 1 tbsp cumin seeds, and salt to taste. Serve as a side dish along with Idli, Dosa or with rice.
I have a quick a Sesame Seed recipe which is widely used in middle eastern cuisine.
- Lightly roasted sesame seeds – 1 cup.
- Olive oil/ edible oil – ¼ cup.
- Lemon juice – 3 tbsp.
- Salt to taste.
- Garlic paste – 1 tbsp.
Procedure: Blends all the above ingredients together except oil. Add little water blend again to a smooth paste. Add olive oil and mix well. Use tahini sauce for sandwich, toast or as a salad dressing.
