Dandruff is a common scalp disorder that affects more than 50% of the population at the post-pubertal age. Dandruff is nothing but the shedding of dead skin cells from the scalp. In general, as the skin cells die, small flaking is normal, but some people experience an unusually large amount of flaking, then it is dandruff. Sometimes dandruff is associated with redness of the scalp.
Often dandruff affected people, especially teenagers have social or self-esteem problems. So treatment of dandruff is required. There are many shampoo based regimes to treat dandruff. However, home remedies for dandruff are always welcome as they are easy and cheap. There are many commonly available and natural ingredients for dandruff prevention. Let’s look at them.
1. Lemon juice
Before the bath rub the lemon juice over the scalp. Use lemon juice for more than 2 weeks regularly to get the result.
2. Neem leaves
Boil about 100 gm of Neem leaves in 1 litre of water for 1-2 hours. Cool it and strain through a thin cloth. This decoction is an excellent hair wash to prevent dandruff. For each hair wash session, prepare a new decoction.
3. Fenugreek Seeds (Methi)
Get two tablespoons of Methi seeds, and soak them in water overnight. Grind it into a fine paste. The paste is to be applied all over the scalp and left for 30 mins. After that hair should be washed thoroughly with Reetha Solution. Repeat these steps for several days to cure dandruff.
4. Indian Gooseberry (Amla)
Mix dried Amla, Shikakai (pods of soap nut acacia) and Neem leaves in equal amount and grind the mixture into fine powder. Mix the powder in 1lt of water to make the hair wash.
5. Beets
Tops and roots of beet can be boiled in water and the water is used to massage the scalp with fingertips every night. White beet is better for this purpose.
6. Snake Gourd
Snake gourd juice can be used to massage the scalp to cure dandruff.
Along with this follow a healthy lifestyle, get fresh fruits and vegetables instead of fast foods, refined foods. And try to avoid tea, coffee and alcohol. Lead a low-stress life.
