If you ever found yourself scrolling through your Instagram feed and online fashion portals and deciding that you just want to just get rid of your wardrobe and start all over again, then you are not alone. I have been there. Moreover, what is with that ‘Less is More’ phrase everyone keeps telling?
I had a wardrobe saturated with clothes and yet I found it hard to find the right outfit for most of the occasions. Moreover, most of the outfits become out of fashion soon enough. So how do we deal with things like this? That’s what I am about to tell you.
Wardrobe Staples
I was able to step up my fashion game when I started maintaining what I call “Wardrobe Staples”.
Wardrobe Staples, as I choose to call them, are the piece of clothing that can be used in multiple ways. They blend with everything and you can mix and match them with most of your outfits to create entirely new looks.
I was able to sort my wardrobe by maintaining a lot of wardrobe staples. These go with anything and to top it off, these outfits work just fine for most of the occasions. Here is my list of wardrobe staples-
A White Tee
You can easily pair your white t-shirt with blue jeans or black pants. Care to make it interesting? Pair it with printed shorts, colored denim or layer it under a poncho or a shrug.
A Black T-shirt
I, for one, love to wear black T-Shirts and Tops. Whenever I have to go out to the supermarket, shopping or just want to roam around and I am not able to make up my mind, I pair my black top with blue jeans and I am good to go. Black is another color which goes with everything. You can pair you a black t-shirt with other light colors to create a contrast.
A Grey T-shirt
Like White and Black, Grey is another color you can easily blend with so many outfits. You can wear it under a colorful shrug or just pair it with blue jean or black pants.
A Little Black Dress
As they say, “You can never go wrong with a little black dress”. As cliched as it may sound, it is damn true. A little black dress comes handy when you are in a jiffy. Be it an evening with friends, a cocktail party or a Friend’s birthday, it is always going to be your best bet. One thing to remember here is to pick up a black dress in modest length according to your body type.
Faded Blue Jeans
This one is self-explanatory. They go with white tees, black tees, colored tops, long kurtas, short kurtas and what not!
Pumps
Black pumps to be precise! Wear them with jeans or black pants depending on where you need to be and they can totally transform your look.
Shirt
A perfect shirt goes with a formal as well as a casual attire. You can pair it with a skirt, jeans or black pants and it gives you different looks for different occasions.
Black Skirt
A black knee length skirt to be precise. It is as versatile as it gets. Be it a business meeting or a casual cocktail night, you can create any look you want with a black skirt.
Simple Flats
Do I need to say why? You can surely wear them anywhere you have to run, be it grocery shopping, your cooking classes or shopping. Flats always give you the comfort you need.
Wrap Dress
A Wrap Dress looks good on all body types. Pair it with your pumps, wedges or sneakers based on the occasion.
Jean Jacket
It is a timeless piece of clothing that would never go out of style. A classic medium wash or medium faded would be your right pick.
Ankle Boots
Want to look classy? Go for black, beige or grey colored ankle Boots. They would go with your black dress, black tee with denim and many more outfits.
Black Pants
Just like faded Blue denim, they are a must to carry in your wardrobe. You can wear them with tops, tees and create both formal as well as casual looks.
Knit Sweater
Choose a knotted sweater with minimal patterns and neutral colors so that you don’t have to put much thought into it. You can pick it up when in a jiffy. You can buy it in three colors including black and grey. These three colors would go with most of your bottoms.
Long Shrug
This one would completely change your look. Take a long Shrug in neutral colors and you would find it goes with anything.
