Healthy Tiffin Ideas for Kids !

It is not often that we see our kid’s lunch boxes empty. There are few reasons like time constraints, limitation of options, taste issues, etc. due to which we are unable to provide our kids with the meals that are healthy for them and they enjoy eating them too.

Here are some nice ideas for you to cook that meal for your child which would be healthy, least time consuming and tasty..and yes, your angel’s tiffin would definitely be empty by their half day bell..!

POHA (15 minutes)

Its a healthy dish with flattened rice as the main ingredient. Heat 2 table spoon vegetable oil in a pan and add 1/4th table spoon mustard seeds, some curry leaves, 1/4th table spoon coriander powder, turmeric powder, chilli powder and leave for half a minute now add 1 medium sized chopped onion, 1 chopped boiled potato to it fry it for another 3-4 minutes. Now to add poha or say these flattened rice, you can either fry it for 5 minutes as it is or soak it in water for 1 minute and then fry it for 1 minute and add salt to taste and some more curry leaves and coriander leaves to it. You can also add sprouts and peanuts for extra proteins. A dash of lemon juice makes it taste yummy!

Cutlets (15 minutes)

Take 5 average sized boiled potatoes, mash them. Add salt to taste, 1 table spoon coriander powder, 1/2 table spoon chilli powder, 1/2 cup chopped onions, 1/2 cup boiled corns and 1/2 cup sprouts, mix them well. Now wrap the mashed filling in brown bread (with some water sprinkled over the bread to make it soft and soggy to hold the filling firmly while frying) and fry it for 3-4 minutes until the cutlets turn golden brown. Pack them with tomato ketchup.

Cottage cheese sandwich (10-12 minutes)

Take 1 cup mashed cottage cheese (paneer) add salt to taste, 1/2 tea spoon coriander powder, pinch of black pepper, 1/2 spoon red chilly powder, 1/4th cup chopped onions, one green chilly chopped and mix it well. Now place this filling on a slice of brown bread and cover it with another slice. Place it in the toaster for 5-7 minutes. Pack the sandwiches along with tomato ketchup.

Fried Idlis (10 minutes)

You can cook some yummy idlis in minutes with the help of GITS or MTR Idli mixes, these are readily available in markets. Take 4-5 Idlis, Cut each into four pieces. Take a pan, heat 2-4 table spoon oil in it, add 1/2 tablespoon mustard seeds, 1 tablespoon coriander powder, 1/2 table spoon red chilli powder, curry leaves, 1 green chilli (broken into 2 pieces) to it. Pour it over the idlis and pour a pinch of salt (to taste) and some lemon juice on the idlis. Pack the fried idlis with green coconut sauce or ordinary mint sauce.

Bread Jam pastry (15 minutes)

Take 2 slices of bread, press them against each other, spread mixed fruit jam or the jam your child likes on the slice and cover it with another slice of bread, press it a bit, just enough to seal the sides and not spill the filling. Spread another layer of jam and cover it with another slice of bread. Add another layer of jam over it and now roll the slices inwards so as to seal the last layer of jam. not press it to seal all the sides. Cut the roll into 2 pieces. You can make as many as you want.

Fruits (10 minutes)

Fruit chaat, apples, oranges, water melon, bananas, pear, apricot, grapes, pomegranate are great to be packed as tiffin and form a highly nutritious packed snack. You can always pack it along the normal lunch box keeping in mind your child’s favorite food. It acts like a healthy snack.

I suppose your creative mind has already started to generate more ideas after reading the above recipes and tomorrow’s tiffin box for your little monster is not a night mare anymore. Go ahead, forget old boring lunch box items and try out such new things and forget the anxiety caused by the half eaten or untouched lunch boxes!
