Caprese Salad (pronounced “cah-preh-zseh”) is a simple and elegant Italian salad, made of sliced fresh tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, sweet basil, seasoned with salt, olive oil, or balsamic vinaigrette. The salad is named after the island of Capri, where it is believed to have originated. The salad features the colours of the Italian flag – green, white, and red.
Caprese salad can make a great summer time salad and is a healthy option for lunch or light dinner. Just don’t overload it with cheese and all the other ingredients are healthy!

Caprese Salad
Ingredients
- 2 no Tomato
- 50 gm Bocconcini cheese
For Balsamic vinaigrette
- 10 ml Balsamic vinegar
- pinch Salt
- pinch Pepper
- 15 ml Olive oil
For basil pesto
- 20 gm Basil leaves
- 3 gm garlic
- 15 ml Olive oil
- 10 gm Pine nuts
- 10 gm Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Slice tomatoes and bocconcini cheese.
- Prepare balsamic vinaigrette mixing all ingredients above.
- Prepare pesto coarsely grind above ingredient in a mixture.
- Arrange tomatoes and cheese on a platter.
- Drizzle vinaigrette and pesto.
- Garnish with basil leaves.
