Have you ever wondered – The harm caused to the environment by our trending clothes? The damage is irreversible but certainly controllable. It’s totally upon us what goes on our bodies, and bellies. Conscious Business & Lifestyle is a trending activity followed by some of the leading corporates across the globe.
Christy Dawn, founded by Christy B, is a sustainable Dress Company with a positive mission – To design garments that make women feel beautiful without harming the environment. The brand uses deadstock fabric to design the trendiest garments. The process involves taking the leftover fabric and recycling it to create such outfits.
The Inspiration Behind Christy’s Collection :
A Purposeful Mission – To honour Mother Earth. Soon, the brand witnessed rapid expansion. Christy, a mother of two, began with small steps with her husband. Before launching their clothing brand, Christy and her husband decided to not be a part of the problem. Their single-minded motto was to honour Mother Earth by creating a sustainable business module.
Redefining the Fashion Arena :
Some valid questions arose in Christy’s mind – Why don’t we have a direct relationship with farmers, artists or, in her case, dressmakers? She feels it’s all about mind-shift. This would-be abundant only if we absorb this little change. The most important question before starting any business is to ask oneself if there’s enough pride to own it. That makes the path much clearer.
Regenerative Fashion :
Since day 1, Christy’s mindset was clear – To be recognised as a sustainable clothing company. Sustenance isn’t enough on this path. Our future depends upon regenerative practices that go beyond sustainability to actively heal both the planet and ourselves. Through creating intimate connections with the communities and ecosystems that support us, we can support them. The formula is simple – Together, we regenerate.
Non-addition of toxicity, regenerative farming methods, organic inclusion. This not just protects but eventually heals the planet we live in.
The brand goes beyond. It has ventured together with Oshadi Collective in Erode, India to develop an Organic Cotton Collection which is woven with care and created with consciousness. Each piece is made with organic cotton and coloured using natural or organic dyes.
Injustices of the Fashion Industry :
The fashion industry is the 2nd largest polluter of water. Especially when it comes to dying the fabrics. Most brands don’t take into consideration how the garment has been dyed and at most times this happens at the cost of the environment. Adding to this, Christy says “We get sucked in the process and we are unconsciously taking the decision. We need to ask ourselves how can I be better and how can I do it better every day. Slave labour in factories too is among the huge problems of the industry.
The Tweaked Business Model :
• Christy Dawn has factories in LA & California.
• Brand doesn’t release its range based upon trends.
• The brand believes that we shouldn’t be throwing the trends outside. Instead, to create garments that last a lifetime should become a trend.
• Everything is one-of-its-kind in this brand.
Lastly, Christy believes that a dress can only be considered beautiful if the process used to produce it preserves the integrity and beauty of the Earth and her people. While selecting a garment, one should consider its making process and related impact. That’s the philosophy Christy Dawn carries, and we feel there is need for such companies and conscious customers when it comes to choosing the right piece.
When it comes to her collection, we are head over heels with the Dawn Dress. It is classic and elegantly eternal.
