Massage is a lovely way to express your love and care for your baby. It can soothe your baby and help her to sleep. Giving massage to your baby till the age of two is of great help as it makes bones stronger and helps in her overall growth.
You can give massage to your baby twice a day, if that’s feasible. If you are giving her massage before giving her bath, let there be a gap of two hours. As part of your massage routine, you can also gently manipulate your baby’s ankles, wrists and fingers. Here are some massage oils for your baby:
(1) Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is the best base oil for making any kind of homemade baby oil. You can use it in any season. But opt for the best quality. In markets you get both organic and non-organic ones, but always go for organic oil. Pure virgin organic oil is bit costlier, but when it comes to babies, don’t get into economics. Coconut oil is a good moisturiser, and contains antibiotics, multivitamins, multi-nutrients and anti-oxidants.
(2) Mustard oil
It is mainly used in northern part of India and is good for winters. It prevents skin infections. But I would suggest you use it after your baby turns 3.
(3) Almond Oil
Almond oil is rich in vitamin A, E and D. It is good for winters. It is a good moisturiser, has good lubrication properties and has a mild, sweet smell.
(4) Olive Oil
It’s full of anti-oxidants, a good moisturiser and full of vitamins. Olive oil is generally used in western countries, but now Indians also use it. It is bit costly, and many people don’t like its smell, but it’s good for baby’s skin.
(5) Pure Ghee
Old traditions die hard! Many people still use pure ghee while giving massage to baby. It is good in winters.
These are some of the basic base oils. These are 100% pure and also treat diaper rashes and skin infections, along with moisturising your baby’s skin. Always keep these oils in an airtight bottle.
